Over the years, I've learned that when it comes to fishing while traveling, versatility is just as important as performance.
You can bring several specialized rods and prepare for every possible fishing situation, but when you're traveling by plane, moving between locations, or simply trying to keep your tackle compact, that's not always practical.
This is where the BONE Voyage Salt Finesse BVS764ML has found its place in my fishing gear.

I've brought this rod on different fishing trips in the Philippines and on trips abroad, and what I appreciate most about it is simple:
It gives me a lot of fishing options without requiring a lot of equipment.
THE TRAVEL ROD I CAN ACTUALLY USE EVERYWHERE
The BVS764ML is a 7'6", four-piece Medium-Light spinning rod.
That 7'6" length is an interesting compromise.
For shore fishing, it provides enough length for casting distance, lure control and line management.

But when I move onto a boat or kayak, it remains manageable enough to fish comfortably.

It's not specifically optimized for only one of those environments, and that's actually the point.
For a travel setup, I'd rather have one rod that performs well in both situations than carry separate rods for shore and boat fishing.
The four-piece construction is what makes this practical for travel. It packs down considerably smaller than a
conventional 7'6" rod, making it much easier to include in my luggage when heading to another fishing destination.
And when I arrive, I simply put the four sections together and go fishing.
FRESHWATER, SALTWATER AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN
Another reason I keep coming back to the BVS764ML is that it isn't tied to a single type of water.
I've used it for the kind of saltwater light-tackle fishing that I enjoy in the Philippines (and abroad), but its Salt
Finesse design also makes it suitable for light freshwater applications.

That becomes especially valuable when traveling.
You may leave home expecting one type of fishing, only to find yourself with an opportunity to fish somewhere
completely different.
With the BVS764ML, I don't have to overthink it.
Freshwater? Yes.
Saltwater? Yes.
Shore? Yes.
Boat or kayak? Yes.
It's a practical middle-ground setup for an angler who doesn't want to travel with a different rod for every
situation.
ONE ROD, MULTIPLE FISHING STYLES
The versatility isn't limited to where I can fish.
The BVS764ML can also cover several light-tackle disciplines, including:
Shore casting – for working small hard baits, soft plastics and other light lures from the bank or coastline.

Micro jigging – where a light, responsive setup makes smaller jigs more enjoyable to work.

Bait-and-wait – because sometimes fishing doesn't have to mean constantly casting a lure.
General lure fishing – giving me the flexibility to change techniques depending on the fish and conditions.
That's important to me.
I don't consider the BVS764ML a replacement for every specialized fishing rod. Instead, I see it as a highly adaptable travel platform that allows me to pursue several styles of fishing with one compact setup.
MY TRAVEL SETUP
To complete the BVS764ML, I pair it with a compact 3000-size spinning reel spooled with PE 1.0 line.
For me, this combination makes a lot of sense as an all-around travel setup.

The 3000-size reel keeps the outfit relatively compact and balanced with the 7'6" Medium-Light rod, while still providing enough line capacity for a wide variety of light-tackle applications.
The PE 1.0 line also gives me a useful balance between sensitivity, casting performance and enough strength
for the mixed fishing situations I may encounter.
So instead of packing several rods and reels for every possibility, my travel setup can essentially be:
BONE Voyage Salt Finesse (BVS764ML)
7'6" / Medium-Light / 4-piece
Compact 3000-size Spinning Reel
PE1.0 Main Line
It's a simple combination, but that's exactly what I want when traveling.
Compact. Versatile. Ready for different fishing situations.
WHY I BRING IT
The real test of a travel rod isn't what it can do on paper.
It's how often you actually want to bring it.
And I've found myself bringing the BVS764ML repeatedly.
It has accompanied me on fishing trips around the Philippines and has also made its way into my luggage when traveling abroad.

That's when the value of a travel rod becomes obvious.
You don't always know where the next fishing opportunity will come from.
Maybe it's a few hours of shore fishing.
Maybe it's a boat or kayak trip.
Maybe there's freshwater nearby.
Maybe you're suddenly beside thecoast.
Maybe you want to throw a small lure.
Maybe it's time to work a micro jig.
Or maybe you simply want to put some bait in the water and wait.
Rather than asking, "Which rod should I have brought?", I already have a setup capable of handling many of those situations.
MY VERDICT
After using the BONE Voyage Salt Finesse BVS764ML across different fishing trips, I think its greatest strength is not any single specification.
It's the balance between portability and versatility.
At 7'6", it is long enough to be useful from shore but still manageable from a boat or kayak.

As a Medium-Light rod, it keeps light-tackle fishing fun while giving me enough capability for a broad range of applications.
Its four-piece construction makes it genuinely practical for travel.
And paired with a compact 3000-size spinning reel and PE 1.0 line, it becomes a simple, capable setup that I can take from Philippine waters to fishing destinations abroad.

For anglers who travel and don't want to bring their entire tackle collection every time, that's a valuable
combination.
I don't bring the BVS764ML because it is the perfect rod for every possible fishing situation.
I bring it because it is good enough for so many of them.

And sometimes, that's exactly what you need.
